Nice to meet you. I'm Ellen, a freelance journalist based (for now) in the Bay Area.
I graduated from Boston College in May with a degree in communication. I also minored in film studies and American studies with a concentration in journalism. In 2019, I completed my senior honors thesis on methods of resistance to surveillance in contemporary art.
While you're here, take a look at my work over the past few years. There's everything from sports coverage to museum exhibit previews, graphics to photos, and silly sketches to podcasts.
If you like what you see, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
May - August 2019
I spent my last summer of college interning on the news desk at 90.9 WBUR, Boston's NPR news station. I found stories, reported, and wrote newscast copy in a fast-paced, semi-chaotic newsroom environment.
January - May 2019
In the spring semester of my junior year, I interned in the Public Relations department of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. I branched out from journalism and learned how to write a press release, grab clips, prep for press previews, and (kind of) how to walk through the museum without a map.
Last summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern in the digital department at Boston Magazine. I gained tons of experience working in the online journalism world, doing everything from writing and reporting to taking and editing photos.
January - May 2018
My first experience writing for a "real-world" publication came in the spring of my sophomore year, when I interned for the content side of Fancred, a standalone social media platform for sports fans. I wrote about 4 articles a week for FancredSports.com and learned more about place kickers than one person should ever know.
May - August 2018
My longest love affair to date has been with The Gavel, Boston College's progressive student publication. I started my freshman year as an editorial assistant, moving up to become sports editor by sophomore year. Thanks to The Gavel, I've learned an innumerable amount about writing, interviewing, SEO, deadlines. Most importantly, Steve Addazio yelled at me on my birthday.

Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA
I studied communication with minors in film and American studies in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences at Boston College. I also picked up a concentration in journalism. I made the Dean's List with first honors each semester, was selected to join the Communication Honors Program, and maintained a 3.87 overall GPA. If you're into contemporary art and issues of surveillance, you can check out my senior thesis (or at least the introduction!) here.
Al Akhawayn University, Ifrane, Morocco
I spent half of my junior year in Ifrane, Morocco, studying Arabic and African politics in the School of Humanities and Social Science at Al Akhawayn University.
